Big Game GT (Giant Trevally) & Tuna Popping Spinning Rods
Casting poppers to breaking tuna, giant trevally or other gamefish requires both distance and power. Serious distance casting requires a rod which: (1) easily loads with the selected range of poppers; (2) carries the least possible weight from the reel seat to the tip while balancing with your reel, (3) has guide sizes and spacing tailored to your reel to maximize distance, and, (4) is long enough for distance casting while being light enough to work all day. Power is necessary to effectively work the popper, set the hooks at considerable distance, and bring the fish to boat. These traits are built into each BlueWater popping rod. BlueWater GT and tuna popping spinning rods start with dual helix multi-modulus carbon fiber blanks with 2 to 4% S-glass (depending on model). Rods over 8 feet in length have an additional layer of glass fiber in the tip section. The two piece models add a layer of woven E-glass fiber for structural enforcement -- this is necessary because our two piece rods are travel friendly: the sections are of equal length. The materials and tapers produce rods, which load easily and transition smoothly to a very powerful butt. Because weight is critical to casting distance these rods are the ultimate expressions of our philosophy of pure function: from the foregrip to the tip top there is neither a single excess thread nor any decoration whatsoever. *"PE" or polyethylene line ("braid," "Dyneema™") was classified under the Japanese system with single digit numbers. Originally, 1 PE = 10 Lbs.; 2PE = 20 Lbs.; etc.; thus, a PE rating of 3-6 meant 30 to 60 Lb. braid. The rating referred to the actual break strength of the braid. However, much like mono, braid usually tests 50 to 100% above its published strength and the PE numbers now mean about as much as a non-IFGA mono rating. The lure range and drag rating of the rod, commonly given in Japan, are the important pieces of information.
**Rod weight is based upon the same setup for each rod: Fuji boat reel seat + Fuji "graphite" gimbal (2.25") + 10" EVA fore grip + 12" EVA rear grip + Fuji silicon carbide guide set. The 50 Lb. rod example weight includes a reversed aluminum reel seat for use with the included, removable Rod Ring™. The weight of your rod will vary with your choice of grips and reel seat.
